Better Enchantment Boosting
Better Enchantment Boosting lets bookshelves influence enchanting tables from farther away, so an enchanting setup has more room in its layout.
What it does
By default, bookshelves must sit three blocks away horizontally and two blocks above, one block below the enchanting table, which can make an enchanting area hard to build. This mod relaxes those placement limits and gives builders more freedom in arranging the room. The placement rules can be changed in the config.
Each individual candle provides a quarter of an enchantment power point, and four candles together provide one, the same as a vanilla bookshelf. Chiseled bookshelves provide a sixth of a point per filled slot. Enchanted books placed in a chiseled bookshelf raise the chance that the enchanting table rolls their enchantment, and a book with a higher level raises the maximum level the table can roll. Treasure enchantments and curses can be switched on in the config.
The mod is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric and Quilt across five game versions, 1.18.1 – 1.20.1, and the latest Quilt build is 1.4.1 for 1.20.1.
Key features
Longer reach for bookshelves
Bookshelves placed farther from the enchanting table still count toward its power, which loosens how the area can be laid out.
Candle and chiseled bookshelf power
Candles and chiseled bookshelves contribute fractional enchantment power, so smaller or decorative blocks can take part in a setup.
Book-based roll control
Enchanted books stored in a chiseled bookshelf raise roll likelihood, and higher-level books raise the maximum level the table can roll.
Configurable options
Placement distances and the treasure enchantment and curse options are set in the config, so server owners can adjust them.

What the author says
Incorporating enchanting tables into your build can sometimes be difficult due to how restrictive bookshelf placement is. Better Enchantment Boosting relaxes those restrictions a little to allow for greater flexibility when designing your enchanting area. By default, you can now place bookshelves 3 blocks away…
