Dappled Forest but Better

by LordGacie

Dappled Forest but Better is a world generation datapack that changes how forests spawn while keeping the vanilla look.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License26.3

What it does

The datapack raises how often trees spawn and increases the number of spruce trees in forest biomes. About one in ten poplar trees is replaced by a fancy variant with a different leaf color, so forests look varied without leaving vanilla styling.

New ground cover joins the forest: wildflowers, ferns and berry bushes. Granite rocks also generate occasionally in larger groups. The author describes the goal as a forest upgrade that stays within the vanilla feel.

Only the server needs the mod for the world changes to appear, and players may add it for the client side. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Builds are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a Data pack option, for 26.3 only, with snapshot builds available.

Key features

  1. More frequent trees

Tree spawning in forest biomes happens more often than in vanilla generation.

  2. Extra spruce trees

The forest contains a larger number of spruce trees, adding more evergreen cover.

  3. Fancy poplar variants

Around one in ten poplar trees uses a fancy variant with a different leaf color.

  4. Wildflowers, ferns and berry bushes

Wildflowers, ferns and berry bushes are added as ground cover across the forest floor.

  5. Granite rock groups

Granite rocks generate occasionally in larger clusters, breaking up the terrain.
