Bell of Companions
by gingermat
Bell Companions lets players register tamed pets with a bell, then recall them from a distance while they gain levels, roles and bonus abilities.
What it does
Tamed pets are registered with a tap of the bell, after which they can be recalled from a distance and stay with their owner even when far away. A handheld Pet Bell item and a placeable block are both available, and the block responds to redstone. Pets can be given names with a Name Tag held in hand, and a Pet Tagger tool marks a registered pet for quick selection.
The mod adds a bond system with five levels. Each pet is assigned a role, Fighter, Guardian, Scout, Support or Forager, and its stats grow in a way that depends on that role. Players can shift and right-click a tagged pet to give it bonus experience, and a passive regeneration and low-health alert are part of its perks. A pet can also be revived once after death through Totem Revitalization charges banked in the player's registry.
Bell Companions is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric only, with 3 release versions: 1.21.1, 1.21.11 and 26.1. It needs Cardinal Components API, Cloth Config API and Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Development is paused, and the update that followed lost its project files, so the latest file is 1.4.0 for 26.1.

How it compares
No Lost Pets is server-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and published for 1.21.8 – 26.3. Immortal Pets is server-side only and MIT-licensed but not open source, with files for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11. Bell Companions is client and server, MIT licensed and open source, so it is a different choice for players who want bonus stats and roles on both sides.
