Auto Restart
Auto Restart is a server-side Utility mod for Forge and NeoForge that restarts a Minecraft server at times set in its config.
What it does
Server owners set the times of day to restart in 24-hour format, such as 14:00 or 16:32. The mod can also restart the server when its TPS falls below a chosen level, with a delay before the restart if one is configured. The mod restarts the Minecraft server itself by calling an external restart script, so the server must be set up with one of the shell scripts for Linux or the batch and cmd files for Windows. The config file is named auto restart-server.toml and sits in the serverconfig folder of the world folder named after the server.
The mod is only used on the server and does nothing on a client. Players join without installing it. Files are published for 1.17.1 – 26.3 on Forge and NeoForge, with the latest Forge file 1.20.1-2.0.4 for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file 26.1-3.0.3 for 26.3, both dated 2026-10-13. The code is not open source; the mod is released under All rights reserved. A setup guide and a troubleshooting page are linked for scripts.
Key features
Scheduled restarts
The server restarts at fixed times of day written in 24-hour format, so restarts happen on a predictable schedule.
TPS-triggered restarts
When the server's ticks per second stay under a threshold the operator sets, for a set duration, a restart can be triggered as well.
Restart delay
An optional delay can be set before a restart, leaving time to warn players.
External restart script
The restart is carried out by an external script, with shell files for Linux and batch or cmd files for Windows.

Use cases
Friends' servers
Small groups who play on their own server can schedule nightly restarts to clear memory build-up without manual work.
Rented servers
Owners of a rented, already configured server can add scheduled restarts through the config file if the host allows scripts.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want a server to restart on a set time or when performance drops, and who can place a restart script on the host.
