auto-mending

by FR13NDS_Krypton

Auto Mending spreads the experience a player collects across every Mending-enchanted item in the inventory, not only the items held or worn.

What it does

Vanilla Mending repairs only the items a player holds or wears, so a spare pickaxe or a set of Elytra sitting in the inventory stays broken. This mod detects Mending-enchanted items anywhere in the inventory and distributes incoming experience across them, prioritizing the most damaged items first. Fully repaired items are skipped, so no experience is wasted on gear that is already at full durability.

The mod is client-side only, so only the client needs it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with the newest Forge file 1.19.2-1.0.2 for 1.19.2 and the newest NeoForge file 1.0.2 for 1.21.1. It is open source under the MIT License, and its source code is public. The author presents it as a modern version of an earlier addition mod, reworked for current releases.

Key features

  1. Inventory-wide repair

Pickaxes, shovels, axes, spare armor and Elytra with Mending are repaired from any slot, not only the hotbar or equipped slots.

  2. Experience distribution

Incoming experience orbs are split evenly across damaged Mending items, so repairs proceed in parallel instead of one item at a time.

  3. Skipping repaired gear

Items at full durability are passed over, so experience goes to the items that still need repair.

  4. Compatible with other utility mods

The author notes it works alongside Curios and other common inventory and utility mods.
