MendingReworked
by AmeliaCute
MendingReworked changes how the Mending enchantment repairs items, replacing experience-orb repair with material-based repair at an anvil.
What it does
Mending is obtainable from the enchanting table in this mod. Items carrying Mending no longer repair themselves from experience orbs in the usual way. Instead, a player repairs an item at an anvil using a specific repair material, and the operation costs a flat one experience level. Each item type has its own material, for example tridents are repaired with prismarine and bows with string, so the repair step becomes a resource decision rather than a background effect.
The reworked system is meant to keep the feel of vanilla Mending while making repair more deliberate. Players still earn the enchantment through the normal game, but the upkeep of their gear now depends on gathering materials. The mod is open source under the MIT License and needs Architectury API and Fabric API. The server must run it, and clients may join with or without it. Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 25 release versions, 1.18.2 – 1.21.11, with the latest Fabric and NeoForge builds for 1.21.1 and the latest Forge build for 1.20.6.
