AudioLayer

by .nightware

Players can place their own MP3 files in a local folder and have AudioLayer play them in the game, with each track addressed under the audiolayer namespace.

What it does

Audio files placed in the mod's local folder become sounds that can be played during a session. MP3 files are streamed directly, so they do not have to be converted to OGG first. The folder layout feeds the sound identifiers: each folder name becomes part of the sound ID, and those IDs stay stable across restarts. A runtime resource pack is generated automatically from the loaded files.

Commands cover the whole workflow. The list command shows loaded sounds, play and stop start or halt a sound, and reload rescans the folder. Sound playback is routed to the client, so a server can send playback requests that the player's game carries out. The mod also ships a simple Java API that other mods can call to integrate with it.

The mod is published for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1 only, and it is open source under the MIT License. Its own Library category sits beside Utility, and it has no required dependencies beyond NeoForge itself.

Key features

  1. Local MP3 playback

MP3 files from a local folder can be played in-game under the audiolayer namespace.

  2. Folder-based sound IDs

Folder names become part of each sound ID, so the structure of the folder sets how sounds are addressed.

  3. Direct MP3 streaming

MP3 files are streamed without first converting them to OGG.

  4. In-game commands

Commands list the loaded sounds, play or stop a sound and rescan the folder for changes.

  5. KubeJS plugin

A built-in plugin lets KubeJS client scripts control AudioLayer, with no extra setup when KubeJS is installed.
