Attribute Tooltip Fix

by Lytho

With Attribute Tooltip Fix, the attack damage and attack speed lines on a weapon tooltip render correctly when those attributes are loaded from NBT data.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

The mod corrects how tooltip text is drawn for item attributes that are stored in an item's NBT rather than defined by the item itself. Without the fix, such lines can be missing or shown incorrectly on the tooltip. Attack Damage and Attack Speed are the two attributes the author text names, and a simple example diamond sword is used to show the behavior.

Attribute modifiers can also be created from scripts. The author text describes a KubeJS setup that defines attributes directly by UUID string, using a value such as CB3F55D3-645C-4F38-A497-9C13A33DB5CF for Attack Speed. The fix is aimed at that kind of data, so it applies to weapons whose stats come from NBT. Attribute Tooltip Fix requires Fabric API on Fabric, and it runs on client and server.

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1. The latest file for each loader is 1.20.1-2.0.1, dated 2024-01-20. The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, which makes the mod open source, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Attribute tooltip rendering

Attribute lines that load through NBT are drawn on the item tooltip so their values can be read.

  2. Attack damage and speed lines

Attack Damage and Attack Speed modifiers show on weapon tooltips once the fix is active.

  3. UUID-based attribute data

Attributes defined by a UUID string in item data, as scripts can write them, are supported by the fix.

  4. Example sword

A simple diamond sword with the attributes applied is included to check how the tooltip looks.
