Asahi

by hugeblank

With Asahi installed, the sun in the sky stops jittering when a vanilla client falls out of step with the server's daylight cycle.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.14 – 26.1.2

What it does

Asahi is a client-side Fabric utility that removes the sun jitter and snap-back caused by daylight cycle desync. When a server runs behind the standard 20 ticks per second, the sync packet arrives late and the vanilla client jumps the sun to the server's position. Asahi smooths this out on the client, so the sun keeps moving steadily instead of rubber-banding.

The mod works by keeping a rolling, weighted average of the server's tick rate. It samples the last 10 seconds of ticks, weighs recent samples more heavily than older ones, and uses that average to predict the sun's movement over the next second. The prediction error stays small enough that it is hard to see against vanilla's snap-back. Asahi is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric across 46 release versions, 1.14 – 26.1.2, with snapshot builds included.

Only the client needs Asahi, so players install it alone and servers do not have to change anything. The latest Fabric file is 1.4.0+26.1 for 26.1.2, released on 2026-04-15.

Key features

  1. Smoother sun movement

The sun's position is predicted between sync packets, which removes the visible jitter and snap-back during server lag.

  2. Server tick rate tracking

The mod measures how many ticks the server actually processes per second over the last 10 seconds.

  3. Weighted prediction

Recent tick samples count more than older ones, so the prediction follows the current server speed.

  4. Vanilla behavior kept

Asahi only changes how the client draws the sun, and the prediction stays close enough that the snap-back is hard to notice.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who join servers with frequent tick lag and want a steadier daylight cycle on their own client.

How it compares

Attack Cooldown Sync is a client-side Fabric mod for 1.20.4 – 26.1.2, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and it covers combat timing rather than the sun. Entity Desync Viewer runs on both client and server for 1.21 – 1.21.8 under the MIT License, and it is a viewer for entity desync, not a daylight fix. Extrapolate is client-side only for 26.1 – 26.3 and is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.

What the author says

Client side Minecraft mod that removes daylight cycle rubber-banding caused by server lag! Every second (20 ticks,) the server sends a packet that syncs the world time between the client and the server. Since clients have no reference for the tick rate of the server, they assume that the server is running at the…
