Animatica Continuation
by Thickstick
Animatica Continuation lets Fabric clients play resource packs that animate more textures, using the MCPatcher and OptiFine animation format.
What it does
The mod is an unofficial continuation of the Animatica project by FoundationGames, ported to newer Minecraft releases. Its current beta build targets Minecraft 1.21.11 on Fabric and is the only game version with files. Resource packs that use MCPatcher or OptiFine-style definitions can animate GUI textures, entity textures, block entity textures, armor textures and other custom textures. Normal vanilla animated blocks and items that use vanilla .mcmeta files already work in the game and still need this mod to be animated under the custom definitions.
Only the client needs the mod, so servers run without it and players can use it in single-player or on any server they join. The code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source, with a public source repository and issue tracker. Some animations are only confirmed to work with this mod installed, and a few older packs may point at texture locations that have since been moved in later releases.
Key features
Animated GUI textures
Interface textures from a resource pack can be animated, not only blocks and items.
Animated entity and armor textures
Entity skins and armor textures defined in MCPatcher or OptiFine format play their animation frames.
Animated block entity textures
Block entities such as chests and signs can use animated textures supplied by a pack.
Custom animated textures
Other custom texture definitions in the same format are read and animated by the mod.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Playing animated texture packs
A player who installs an OptiFine-style pack for Minecraft 1.21.11 gets the animations it defines on Fabric.
Who it’s for: Players who use resource packs with animated textures on Fabric, and pack makers testing MCPatcher or OptiFine-style animation definitions on the 1.21.11 beta.
How it compares
CIT Resewn is a separate Fabric mod that handles custom item textures, published for 1.17 – 1.21.1 and open source under the MIT License. MCPPPP is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and covers 1.17 – 1.19.3 on Fabric, so it does not reach 1.21.11. DynamicUI is closed, under All rights reserved, and targets only 1.21.5 on Fabric.
