Animal Crops
by KnightMiner
Animal Crops lets players plant animal seeds and lilies so that passive animals and water creatures grow over time from the ground and water they are placed on.
What it does
Two new items form the core of the mod. Animal seeds are planted on grass blocks and grow passive animals over time, while animal lilies are planted on water blocks and grow the water animals that match them. Seeds also drop from bushes, which rarely generate, and from crops when they are harvested, and a broken lily can yield one as well.
The mod can add seeds for other mobs through a config file, including mobs from other mods such as the Twilight Forest's Waddles, as well as vanilla monsters like creepers and guardians. Each added mob also gets a spawn egg. It is designed for modpacks with custom recipes, where the seed recipe can be changed as well.
Animal Crops is published for Forge only, with a single version for 1.18.2 at the latest file, and it is open source under the MIT License. Both the server and every player need it, so it has to be installed on both sides. Builds exist across 8 game versions, covering the span from the earliest build to 1.18.2.
Key features
Animal seeds
Seeds planted on grass blocks grow passive animals over time, giving players a farm-like way to obtain livestock.
Animal lilies
Lilies planted on water blocks grow the water animals that match them, which keeps aquatic mobs in a controlled area.
Seeds from crops and bushes
Seeds drop when a crop is harvested and occasionally from bushes, so the mechanic can be reached without a separate trade.
Config-driven mob seeds
A config file adds seeds and spawn eggs for other mobs, including modded and hostile ones, and sets whether right-click harvest and bone meal affect crops and how often extra seeds drop.

Respawn Animals is also for Forge and runs on client and server, but its files cover 1.19.2 – 1.20.1 and it is not open source. Animal Crops itself is open source under the MIT License, with client and server both needed.

What the author says
This is a pretty simple mod which adds a two new items: animal seeds and animal lilies. This mod is designed to be used in mod packs with custom recipes for each animal seed, though by default animal bushes will rarely generate which drop a random animal seed or lily when broken.
