Alpine

by bebebea_loste

Alpine reworks the Overworld terrain generation and adds new biomes modeled on real mountain forests and tundras, and the server is the side that must run it.

What it does

Alpine is a worldgen overhaul. It reworks the Overworld and adds biomes such as alpine mountain forests and tundras, aiming at real-world landscapes that the vanilla biome set covers poorly. The mod changes terrain generation, so newly generated chunks follow its rules while existing terrain stays as it is.

The server must run Alpine, while players may add it to see the new biomes on their own client, so a client without it still joins. Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, all for 1.21.4, with 0.25.3.16 as the latest build. The code is not open source and is covered by All rights reserved.

Alpine works alongside Lithostitched and Apollo, and it can share a world with biome packs that rely on Terrablender. Other Overworld overhauls can overwrite the dimension file and insert biomes in a way that conflicts with it, so the author advises setting load orders so that Alpine takes priority.

Key features

  1. New alpine biomes

Mountain forests and tundras join the Overworld, the biome types the author names as under-represented in the game.

  2. Terrain generation overhaul

Terrain generation is reworked across the Overworld rather than only adding biomes in isolated spots.

  3. Load order priority

The author recommends a load order that gives Alpine priority over other Overworld overhauls.

  4. Terrablender compatibility

Alpine works with classic biome mods that use Terrablender, so several biome packs can share a world.

Questions

Does Alpine need to be installed on clients?

No. Only the server has to run the mod, so players may add it for the new biomes but a client without it still joins.

Which loaders does Alpine support?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Each has a file for 1.21.4, with 0.25.3.16 as the latest build, published on 2025-03-16.

Can Alpine be combined with other biome mods?

Yes, it can share a world with biome packs that rely on Terrablender. Overworld overhauls that replace the dimension file may need a load order that puts Alpine first.

What the author says

Many of Alpine's new biomes are based on real-world environments that I felt are under-represented in the game.. or not represented at all. Most notably alpine biomes, such as mountain forests or tundras, hence the name! Alpine should be used with Lithostitched by Apollo. It is currently not a requirement, but this…
