Continued from DarkKronicle's AdvancedChatHUD, advancedchathud-next replaces the vanilla chat overlay on the client with a configurable HUD for incoming messages.

What it does

Chat lines can be striped, stacked and shown with the sender's head next to them. Padding on the top, bottom, left and right edges, the background color and the border color are all set by the player, along with the spacing between lines and between separate messages. Many of these options change the way messages are drawn on screen, so the chat window can look quite different from the vanilla one.

The mod targets Fabric and Quilt for game versions 1.21 – 1.21.8, with files for 1.21 and 1.21.8. It is client-side only, so servers run without it and players install it alone. It is released under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and the source code and issue tracker are public. The latest files, v1.3.11 for 1.21.8, were published on 2025-09-28 and the project was first released on 2024-09-17.

    Chat lines can be drawn with alternating stripes, which makes a busy channel easier to scan.

    Repeated messages from the same source can be grouped into one line instead of filling the chat.
