Advanced Computers
Advanced Computers adds programmable in-game computers that run a Lua 5.4 runtime, an included operating system and a network protocol for sending packets between machines.
What it does
Each computer is a small virtual machine with its own Lua environment, so the mod keeps the resource cost low: only the Lua execution environment is set up per computer. CPU time is limited by computer tier, and both RAM and disk space are capped, which lets a world run many machines without a heavy load.
The included Advanced OS ships with basic commands such as ls and rm, a text editor named nano inspired by GNU nano, and a paste-to-file command that writes clipboard text from the middle mouse button into a chosen file. Programs, wiki pages describing the API functions, and interaction with more Minecraft blocks are part of the release. The mod is published for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.20.1, and runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Released under the MIT License, the source code is open source and public.
Key features
Lua 5.4 runtime
Computers execute Lua 5.4 code in a runtime that the mod ships, with state kept between sessions.
Packet networking
Computers send network packets to one another, and a custom in-game IP protocol handles addressing.
Limited disk and RAM
Disk space and RAM are capped per computer, and a soft RAM limit keeps machines from exhausting the server.
Text editor and paste
The nano-style editor and the paste-to-file command let players write scripts without leaving the game.

Use cases
Server automation
Server owners can script machines that interact with blocks and report over the network.
Who it’s for: Players who write Lua programs in Minecraft and server owners who want programmable machines with capped resource use.

What the author says
For server owners: As far as resource usage goes, we are only setting up a lua execution environment per computer and not an entire virtual machine, meaning these computers have a very low ram and disk space requirement. Cpu time limiting based on computer tier is implemented. Disk usage is limited too, but ram usage…
