[ASW] Adaptive Skin Weathering
by Zhiroslav
Adaptive Skin Weathering changes how the player's skin looks, adding dirt, sand, stone dust, snow and blood according to the ground and actions taken.
What it does
The mod turns the character's skin into a dynamic record of recent travel. Dirt, sand, stone dust, snow and blood appear on the skin as the player moves through the world, and the overlay follows movement, the surface under the feet and the damage taken from the surrounding area. It is a visual mod built for resource-pack servers, hardcore survival and Vanilla+ modpacks, and it runs on client and server.
Each surface type has its own coating. Dirt and grass leave a classic dark soil color, mud and clay accumulate faster when wet, sand gives a light-yellow dust, stone and ores pick up dark-grey dust that builds up in caves below Y=50, and snow and ice leave a white coat tinted pale blue that shows even on thin layers. Jumps and falls keep the dirt type of the block left in mid-air, so the mud color does not reset mid-jump.
Installation runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across three release versions: 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 26.2. Only the client and the server need it. The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and the project is not open source.
Key features
Surface-based coatings
Dirt, mud, sand, stone, snow and ice each leave a distinct coat on the player skin.
Movement-based weathering
The overlay changes with movement and with the surface stepped on, so the skin shows recent travel.
Adjustable accumulation
Players can enable or disable dirt and blood separately, set an accumulation rate multiplier and adapt the dirt and blood colors and skin tone.
Block and biome detection
The mod scans block tags, translation keys and the current biome to choose the closest matching coat for a step.

Cauldron Mud is open source under the MIT License and needs only the server, with files for 1.21 – 26.2.
