a0fefd's ConfigLib

by a0fefd

With a0fefd's ConfigLib, a Fabric mod author describes settings as plain Java objects and the library builds the in-game config screen and its command.

FabricClient required, server optionalMIT LicenseOpen source26.1.2

What it does

Option types cover booleans, integers, floats, strings, Java enums, lists, tuples and buttons under one unified API. A BUTTON option runs a callback instead of holding a saved value, which suits actions that should not be stored in the config file. Settings are persisted as JSON.

Options can be grouped in tabs, with sub-categories as headings inside each tab, so a larger config stays organized. The library registers its own command that opens the config screen, and ConfigCommand.registerWithAlternatives can add further command aliases that open the same screen. The mod requires Fabric API and runs on Minecraft 26.1.2 with Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer. Players need it installed to open the screen, while a server can run without it. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source.

Key features

  1. In-game config screen

Options registered by a mod appear on a screen that players can open without leaving the game.

  2. Tabs and sub-categories

Categories become tabs, and sub-category headings group related options inside each tab.

  3. Seven option types

Booleans, numbers, strings, enums, lists, tuples and buttons share one API, so each setting uses the same declaration style.

  4. Auto-registered command

A command is registered automatically and opens the screen, and extra aliases can be added with a single call.

Use cases

Adding settings to a Fabric mod

A mod author declares options as Java objects and gets the screen and JSON saving without building a settings interface.

Who it’s for: Fabric mod developers who want an in-game settings screen without hand-rolling GUI code. Players of mods that use the library see the same screen across them.

What the author says

A lightweight config library for Fabric mods. Describe your options as plain Java objects and get a working in-game config screen, a / command to open it, and JSON persistence, all without hand-rolling a GUI. That is enough to get a working /mymod command opening a config screen with one toggle in it. Add more…
