Zoom-o-Matic
by NicoIsLost
Zoom-o-Matic gives players a zoom key that can be bound to up to three buttons, with options for smooth camera movement and scroll-wheel zoom.
What it does
Players set up the zoom tool through their controls menu, choosing one to three keys and configuring each zoom level. The zoom can be toggled off, the camera can be smoothed during zoom, and zoom can respond to the scroll wheel. Settings are saved in a file that does not depend on any particular world, so they carry over between singleplayer worlds and servers joined on the same client.
The mod is written for Fabric and runs on the client only, so a server does not need it and players can join servers without installing it. Zoom-o-Matic is published for 1.19.3, 1.19.4, 1.20 and 1.20.1, with 1.1.0 for 1.20.1 as the latest file. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source is public, so the author's approach to mixins and camera handling can be read directly. Fabric API is required to run it, and the mod is placed in the regular mods folder like any other Fabric mod.
Key features
Multi-key zoom
Up to three keybinds can each trigger a zoom, with the zoom level set separately for each one.
Smooth camera
An optional smoother eases the camera while zoom starts and stops, with its own adjustable settings.
Scroll-wheel zoom
The scroll wheel can change the zoom amount while a zoom key is held, instead of only applying a fixed level.
Custom interface
A custom settings screen groups the zoom keys, levels and toggles in one place, with animations when it opens.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Inspecting distant builds
A player looking across a large structure or terrain can hold a key to magnify the view without changing the field of view in the options menu.
Screenshots and recordings
Players capturing detail in a scene can use a fixed zoom key with smoothing so the framing changes gradually.
Who it’s for: The mod suits players who want a configurable zoom on the client, and Fabric users who want to read the code of a zoom implementation that builds on the Logical Zoom approach.
How it compares
Logical Zoom, by LogcialGeekBoy, is open source under the MIT License and runs on Fabric for 1.18.2 – 26.3. MyZoom is open source under the MIT License, client-side only, and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21 on Fabric. Screenshot On Zoom is also open source under the MIT License and client-side only, published for Fabric and Quilt across 1.19 – 1.20.2. Zoom-o-Matic is published for 1.19.3 – 1.20.1 and, like those three, does not need to be installed on a server.
