You can't damage me!

by Patbox

With You can't damage me!, a server owner can decide how much harm players take through a few game rules, adjusted per player and per source.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.2 – 1.16.4

What it does

You can't damage me! adds a small set of game rules that control how much damage a player takes. The rules let the server scale incoming damage by a percentage, where 100 is the default, 200 doubles it and 0 blocks it, and they also control whether knockback still applies. Entities, magic potion effects and a player's own bow shots can each be switched on or off as a source of harm, so a world can allow one kind of damage and block the rest.

The mod is a server-side only addition for Fabric, published for 1.16.2 – 1.16.4 with three release files. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with the source code and issue tracker publicly available. The latest file, 1.1.0 for 1.16.4, was posted on 2020-12-03, two days after the first release on 2020-12-01.

Key features

  1. Scaled player damage

A gamerule sets how much damage a player takes as a percentage, with 100 as the default and 200 doubling it.

  2. Knockback preservation

A separate gamerule keeps knockback in effect even when incoming damage is reduced or removed.

  3. Damage sources

Separate rules let entities, magic potions and a player's own bow attacks damage the player, each on its own.

  4. Gamerule listing

The available gamerules can be listed in the game, so server owners can see what each one controls.

Use cases

Invincible build worlds

A server owner can set incoming damage to 0 so players can build or explore without risk.

Custom difficulty

Scaling damage up or down gives a server a harder or softer setting than the default game difficulty.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want to change how much damage players take, and map makers who need a world without combat risk. Players only need the mod if they run a single-player world on the same version.

Questions

Does the mod need to be installed on the client?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Which loader does You can't damage me! use?

Fabric is the only loader with published files, and the mod is available for 1.16.2 – 1.16.4.

Does knockback still happen when damage is blocked?

Knockback has its own gamerule, so the server can keep it active while reducing or removing the damage itself.
