Woods and Mires

by Juuz

Woods and Mires generates new Nordic-style biomes, including pine forests, mires and fells, in both new and existing worlds.

FabricQuiltClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.16.3 – 1.20.1

What it does

Woods and Mires adds biomes inspired by Nordic nature to the world generator. Pine forests, mires and fells appear together with their variants, and the biomes bring new foliage into areas that vanilla biomes leave plain. Because the biomes are generated, they appear as the player explores new chunks rather than in a fixed set of places.

The biome placement depends on TerraBlender, which is an optional dependency. Fabric API is a required dependency, and the mod works alongside Quilted Fabric API from version 1.19 onward. On 1.16 builds, the Fabric Language Kotlin library was once needed, but that requirement no longer applies to the 1.20.1 build.

Files are published for Fabric and Quilt across nine release versions, 1.16.3 – 1.20.1, with 2.1.1 for 1.20.1 as the latest file. The server and every player need the mod installed. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Nordic biome set

Biomes built around Nordic nature, with pine forests, mires and fells as the main terrain types.

  2. Biome variants

Each main biome comes with variants, which spread the terrain across a wider part of the map.

  3. New foliage

The mod adds foliage to biomes that vanilla generation leaves without it, changing how those areas look.

  4. Generated placement

Biomes are generated as the world loads, so they appear in newly explored terrain without manual setup.
