Wildex Bestiary

by ColdFang

Wildex Bestiary adds an in-game bestiary that records the creatures a player meets, including modded mobs, and shows them in a book-style screen.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.01.21.1 – 26.1

What it does

Entries are gained by fighting, observing with a Spyglass, or photographing a mob with the Exposure mod installed. Once discovered, a creature's information appears in the dedicated book interface, where a searchable list and 3D model preview help players browse. Discovery is tracked per player per world, and a player can also receive an entry from another player in multiplayer.

The mod works with vanilla mobs and modded mobs alike, and technical entities that do not matter to gameplay are excluded automatically. Progress is stored on the server and synced on request with minimal network overhead, so multiplayer servers keep each player's progression separate. Loot and experience ranges are based on real drops, and the config files offer many options. Wildex requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric and NeoForge, for 26.1 and the 1.21.1 – 26.1 builds. Files cover 1.21.1, 1.21.2, 1.21.3, 1.21.11 and 26.1, under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license, and the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Automatic mob tracking

The bestiary records creatures as the player encounters them, including modded mobs, without manual entry.

  2. Spyglass Pulse

Discovering a trackable mob enables the Spyglass Pulse, which briefly highlights nearby mobs through walls.

  3. Item analyzer block

An analyzer block reveals information about items, so the bestiary is not limited to creatures.

  4. Mob details

Entries list weaknesses, breeding and taming, spawn biomes and structures, and stats and attributes.

  5. Completion reward

A reward is given when the bestiary reaches completion, with the progress kept per player.

What the author says

Wildex adds an in-game bestiary that documents creatures in your world as you encounter them. Mobs are discovered naturally through gameplay by fighting them or observing them with a Spyglass. Once discovered, their information becomes available inside a dedicated book-style UI. No external wiki lookups, no spoilers…
