by TySH

watch.jar - The Story is a Forge story mod for Minecraft 1.20.1, built around narrative atmosphere in a single-player playthrough rather than trolling or jump scares.

What it does

The mod tells its story across two parts, with the second part following the first. Its focus is on in-game narrative, atmosphere and storytelling. It offers nine endings: five ordinary endings and four secret endings. After reaching one ending, a player creates a new world to try a different one, and a prompt lets a player skip straight to the end or start over.

The story is meant to be played in single-player. The mod is distributed for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.20.1, and the author states that it can be played without other mods, shaders or resource packs. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. The latest Forge file is Part1 for 1.20.1, published 2026-05-12, after a first release on 2026-05-01. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

The author notes that some structures spawn correctly only sometimes, and that a player in spectator mode may find underground structures missing. A beta build was released and is described as most likely fixed in the current release. Locations for the shelters, the tower, the bridge and the dirt pillar are provided by the mod, with a farm coordinate as a starting point.
