Volo Volare is a Fabric mod that adds a configurable toy glider players can craft, launch and steer through the world.
What it does
The glider is a flying toy that players can shape through a configuration file and an in-game config screen. Gunpowder and blaze powder give a speed boost while flying, and campfires, fire, magma and lava produce thermals that carry a glider higher. Server configuration files are synced automatically to connected clients.
Custom gliders can use their own textures and translation keys, placed in the datapack and asset folders, and can be spawned with a command. Area commands let a server shoot gliders down or create updrafts and downdrafts across a region. Required dependencies are Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), and Area Lib is optional.
The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.21.8, with 0.1.6+fabric-1.21.8 as the latest build from 2025-08-30. The code is open source under the European Union Public License 1.2.

Server events
Server owners can spawn gliders with custom textures for races or courses and use area commands to add hazards or lift.
