Villager Names
by archiebaldry
Villager Names gives each villager a random name drawn from lists of English baby names and NATO phonetic alphabet words, so villagers stop sharing identical labels in a world.
What it does
When a villager is created, the mod assigns it a random name from one of its built-in lists. The lists hold 100 male names and 100 female names drawn from England's top baby names of 2004, 26 names taken from the NATO phonetic alphabet, and a set of 16 bonus names. Wandering Traders also receive names, and the mod covers the modded entities that extend the MerchantEntity class.
The mod is server-side only, so only the server needs it and players join without installing anything. It is a Fabric mod released under the MIT License, and its source code is open source. Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.4, and the latest Fabric build is 1.0.2 for 1.20.1, published on 2025-05-16.
Guard Villagers is an optional dependency. When it is installed, the guards it adds receive names as well, so the same naming applies to them. Without it, the naming covers the standard villagers and traders only.
Key features
Random villager names
Each villager is given a name chosen at random when it is created.
Male and female name lists
Two lists of 100 names each, drawn from England's top baby names of 2004, separate the male and female choices.
NATO alphabet names
A list of 26 names based on the NATO phonetic alphabet adds a distinct set for villagers.
Wandering Trader names
Wandering Traders are named from the same lists, so they are not left unlabeled.
