Vanessence

by john-development

Vanessence is a Fabric utility mod that changes several vanilla mechanics, from End crystal terrain protection to villager trading and Beacon effects.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.16 – 1.20.1

What it does

Vanessence changes a set of vanilla behaviors. End crystals keep terrain areas around them safe from spawns, villagers restock their trades more often in a day, husks drop sand, and the Lure enchantment attracts items such as XP orbs. Beacon effects vary with the blocks used in the pyramid, changing which boosts are granted and to whom.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it and only the server needs it. Fabric is the sole loader, and the files cover 1.16 – 1.20.1 across 18 release versions. The latest Fabric file is 3.4.0 for 1.20.1, published 2023-03-18, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, which makes the code open source.

Installation involves only the server. Because Vanessence has no loader beyond Fabric, it does not run on Forge or NeoForge. The first release was published on 2021-06-26 and the mod was last updated on 2023-03-18.

Key features

  1. End crystal terrain protection

Areas around End crystals are kept free of spawns, which lets large stretches of terrain stay clear of mobs.

  2. Villager restock frequency

Villagers restock their trades more times per day than in vanilla, so trades refresh faster.

  3. Husk sand drops

Husks drop sand when killed, adding a new source of sand to survival play.

  4. Beacon boost variety

Beacon boosts depend on the blocks that make up the pyramid, and the mod changes which effects are received.

  5. Lure enchantment item attraction

The Lure enchantment pulls in nearby items such as XP orbs, collecting drops with less walking.
