Thunderbolt_lib

by QianChang-official

Thunderbolt_lib is a library that gives third-party plugins a stable way to work with the lightning system of AE2 Lightning Tech, without coupling to its internal classes.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

The library exposes a public API to AE2 Lightning Tech. Plugin developers use it to reach that mod's machines, recipe types and lightning energy capabilities. Any third-party plugin that extends or alters the hooks of AE2LT's lightning system needs Thunderbolt_lib installed as a required dependency. Modpack authors add it to a modpack list alongside AE2 Lightning Tech, and the jar sits beside the mod's own API dependency.

The library ships items, blocks and recipes built only on frozen public APIs and NeoForge capability contracts. Its recipe builders use a reflective runtime bridge, so they degrade gracefully when AE2 Lightning Tech itself is absent. Existing plugin dependency declarations are unaffected by the library's presence. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, for game versions 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, and it runs on client and server. The code is under the MIT License and is open source.

Key features

  1. Codec and stream codec helpers

Serialization helpers cover Mojang Codec, vanilla StreamCodec and an ordinal-based static decoder for enum values.

  2. Lightning machine identifiers

Resource locations for the lightning collector, simulation room and assembly chamber are provided as constants.

  3. Lightning energy capabilities

The lightning energy handler is exposed through two NeoForge capabilities, one block-sided and one item-based, so machines can read and write lightning energy.

  4. Two-tier voltage enum

A two-value enum with high voltage and extreme high voltage flows across the API surfaces and round-trips through NBT.

  5. Registry identifier constants

Two sets of resource location constants collect the registry identifiers of AE2 Lightning Tech in one place, so a rename in that mod is patched in one spot.

  6. Runtime namespace check

A bridge class checks at runtime whether the first-party API of AE2 Lightning Tech is present, letting both API surfaces coexist under separate namespaces.
