Thiocyanate
Thiocyanate is a world generation mod for Fabric and NeoForge that reports datapack errors in plainer language than vanilla does.
What it does
The mod targets the error detection and recovery code that Minecraft uses when a data driven world generation datapack fails to load. Instead of printing long stack traces, it generates shorter messages that name the most common problems found in world generation datapacks. Server owners and pack makers who write custom features, biomes or structures get a clearer starting point when something breaks.
Feature cycle errors are the main example from the author text. When features are listed in an order that cannot be satisfied, a trace report points to the exact cycle and the biomes where it occurs, so the offending entries can be found quickly. Thiocyanate is a modern port of the earlier Cyanide mod, and the author notes describe Cyanide as the source of these improvements.
Installation depends on the loader. Fabric files and NeoForge files are published separately, both for 26.2. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so it works on a single player client, on a server alone, or on both. The license is a custom license, and the project is not open source, although its source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Readable error messages
Common datapack problems produce short, user-friendly messages in place of the full stack traces.
Feature cycle reports
When features conflict in their ordering, the report names the exact cycle and the biomes where it was found.
Step and index detail
Error output lists the generation step and index of each feature involved, so the ordering rule can be corrected.
Recovery improvements
The error detection and recovery mechanisms for data driven world generation are changed to handle failures with less disruption.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.
Use cases
Who it’s for: Pack makers and server owners who write or load world generation datapacks and need clearer error output when those datapacks fail to load.
How it compares
Azalea Growth Control is server-side only, open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and published for 1.21.1 – 26.3 on Fabric and NeoForge, so players do not need it. Feature Recycler is also server-side only, but it is not open source, uses All rights reserved, and has files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Thiocyanate covers 1.21.11 – 26.2 and can run on the client or the server.
