The Only Isle

by Alphayt

With The Only Isle, a new Overworld becomes one compact natural island floating in an endless deep ocean, sized to the player's choice of Small, Medium or Large.

What it does

The mod creates a compact natural island world. When a player creates a world, they pick the island size, and the Overworld then consists of a single central island with dense biome variety, surrounded by endless deep ocean. The layout is meant to give a limited world experience and to recall the island worlds of the legacy console editions.

Small islands are around 32 chunks wide, Medium around 54 chunks and Large around 128 chunks; the sizes are listed as Small Isle, Medium Isle and Large Isle in the author notes, with the largest option around 256 chunks wide. The mod works alongside performance-focused modpacks and biome mods, including Biomes O' Plenty, which is an optional dependency and adds more biome diversity. The author recommends the AMPLIFIED world type with the mod.

The Only Isle is built for Fabric and is server-side only, so the server runs it and players join without installing anything. The code is under the MIT License, and the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Island world size

Players choose a Small, Medium or Large island when creating the world, each a fixed number of chunks wide.

  2. Dense biome variety

The single island is packed with many biomes, so a small land area still offers varied terrain.

  3. Endless deep ocean

Everything outside the island is deep ocean, which bounds the playable area.

  4. Biome mod compatibility

Biomes O' Plenty adds more biome variety to the island and is the mod named as optional.
