The Frozen World

by SwenefelixMC

The Frozen World adds a new dimension, reached through a portal, whose biomes are covered in ice and snow.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1

What it does

Players find the dimension through a Frozen World portal, which is crafted and then lit with a portal igniter; the portal is opened by use. Once inside, the world holds six added biomes, and cold terrain such as ice coasts and oceans covers much of it. An Underpost structure generates within those biomes and is the first thing a player is likely to encounter there.

The dimension is not a neutral place: a warmth bar in the top left of the screen shows how warm the player is. It drops quickly, and the cold brings effects shortly after it empties. Warmth can be restored by rubbing two sticks together. The mod runs on Forge for 1.20.1 and requires Geckolib; it is listed as client and server, so the server and every player need it, and the latest Forge file is 1.3.1 for 1.20.1, published on the alpha channel, with All rights reserved (not open source) applying.

Key features

  1. Six added biomes

The dimension brings in six biomes, each with terrain suited to cold weather and snow.

  2. Portal entry

A portal igniter is crafted from the mod's items and used to open the portal that leads into the dimension.

  3. Warmth bar

A bar in the top left of the screen shows the player's warmth, and the cold brings effects shortly after it drops.

  4. Warming by hand

Warmth can be restored by hitting two sticks together, a simple way to recover before the bar runs out.

Who it’s for: Players who want a new dimension with cold biomes, and server owners who want the dimension on a multiplayer world. Installing it on a server requires every player to have it as well, because the environment is client and server.

How it compares

No More Snowy Biomes is a server-side only Forge mod for 1.20.1 under All rights reserved, so players can join without installing it. FlameAndIce is server-side only, released under CC0 1.0 Universal, and also targets 1.20.1 on Forge. Z's Wildscape and Natural Prehistory Spawns both run on client and server and are published for 1.20.1 on Forge, and Ending Biomes is also client and server for 1.20.1, so they match this mod's environment without sharing its dimension.

Questions

Does The Frozen World require Geckolib?

Yes. Geckolib is a required dependency and must be installed alongside The Frozen World on Forge 1.20.1.

Do players need the mod to join a server running it?

Yes. Installation covers the server and each player's game.

How does the warmth bar work?

The bar appears in the top left of the screen and drops quickly in the dimension. When it empties, cold effects follow shortly after. Hitting two sticks together raises warmth.
