Thanatophobia - Fear of the End
Thanatophobia - Fear of the End adds a persistent Fear mechanic that builds up in the player's character as dangerous situations pile up, changing what the world looks and sounds like.
What it does
Fear rises through darkness, damage, hostile environments and the player's own mistakes, and it only falls again under bright light, at full health or after certain consumable items. Fear never resets on its own. A Fear Bar shows the current mental state, and a configurable value lets server owners adjust how strongly it climbs. High fear does not scare the player; it hurts them.
As Fear grows, the world changes around the player. Atmospheric audio shifts, sounds that should not exist appear, heartbeats and breathing become louder, and movement is glimpsed at the corner of the eye. Visual distortion, desaturation, a vignette and sudden flashes get worse with fear, and surroundings react in unexpected ways. The mod is a psychological horror experience aimed at survival play, and it is not designed for creative mode.
Thanatophobia - Fear of the End runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge only, for six game versions 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, with 1.0.4 for 1.20.6 as the latest file. It is not open source and is covered by All rights reserved.

A bar on screen shows the current mental state, so the player can see how close the character is to losing control.
Atmospheric audio
World sounds change as Fear increases, with breathing, heartbeats and sounds that have no visible source.
Visual distortion
Desaturation, a vignette and sudden flashes appear and grow stronger as Fear rises, and the surroundings can react unpredictably.
