TaskManager

by Wueffi

TaskManager is a Fabric client profiler that shows, in-game, which mods and parts of the game take CPU, GPU and memory while Minecraft keeps running.

FabricClient-side onlyPolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.01.21.6 – 26.2

What it does

Open the profiler in-game with F12. It lists startup times, CPU and GPU time, and memory per mod. CPU figures come from sampled stack ownership, so event invokes appear separately, while GPU figures are estimates from render-thread sampling combined with measured GPU timer-query time. Memory is estimated per mod from shared JVM and runtime buckets and the top live class families.

Frametime, FPS, network throughput and disk throughput are each drawn as a timeline graph in the profiler. A world diagnostics view covers the lag map, block entities and hot chunks, and a JVM tab reports thread waits, locks and runtime health. Session recordings can be exported with a summary of the worst frame, MSPT spikes and the top CPU, GPU and memory mods.

The mod is Fabric-only and runs on the client alone: it is client-side only, so servers do not need it. It is published for 1.21.6 – 26.2 across eight release versions, and the latest Fabric file, 1.2.4, targets 1.21.11. TaskManager is released under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0 and is not open source, although its source code is public.

Key features

  1. Per-mod CPU attribution

Live CPU time is attributed to each mod by sampling stack ownership, with event invokes listed separately.

  2. Estimated GPU per mod

Render-thread sampling and measured GPU timer-query time give an estimate of each mod's GPU cost.

  3. Startup timing

Fabric entrypoint execution is measured and shown per mod in milliseconds, and the check can be configured.

  4. World and JVM diagnostics

A lag map, block entity hotspots, hot chunks and JVM thread and lock views help locate frame drops.

Questions

Does TaskManager need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Are the per-mod GPU and memory values exact?

No. GPU time per mod is estimated from render-thread sampling and timer-query data, and memory is estimated from shared JVM buckets, so the values are guidance rather than ground truth.

Which game versions does TaskManager support?

It supports 1.21.6 – 26.2, with files for 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1.2 and 26.2.

What the author says

Task Manager is a Fabric client profiler for modded Minecraft that helps you identify frame drops, high MSPT, hot mods, rendering spikes, block-entity pressure, and JVM/runtime issues while the game is still running. That means the profiler is very useful for finding hotspots and spikes, but some values, especially…
