Strut Your Stuff (Struts)

by cakeGit

Strut Your Stuff is a Minecraft library for blocks that span between two positions as a continuous, interactable structure.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Strut Your Stuff is a library for creating blocks that stretch from one block to another and behave as one continuous structure. Modders who build span-type blocks can use its rendering, collision and interaction systems instead of writing those parts from scratch. Players see the result in the world, not in a separate menu.

The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge. Its files cover 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with the latest Forge build 1.1.1+mc1.20.1 for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge build 1.3.1 for 1.21.1. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Flywheel (Legacy) is an optional dependency that adds an alternate rendering path. The license is MIT, and the project is not open source. The mod is a required dependency of Create: Bits 'n' Bobs and Create: More Girder.

Key features

  1. Collision structures

Struts build physical collision shapes, so entities and players interact with the span rather than passing through it.

  2. Surface clipping

Strut models are clipped to the surfaces they touch, which gives the joins a tidier outline.

  3. Flywheel rendering

Struts can be drawn through Flywheel's rendering system, which can reduce the cost of drawing many spans.

  4. Cable styles

A strut can take a cable behaviour that turns off collisions, keeps the cable's shape and adds a natural droop.

Use cases

Span-type blocks for modpacks

Mod authors building cables, ropes or girders that connect two points can base them on the library instead of their own rendering code.

Decorative lines in builds

Players who add an add-on that uses the library get connected structures such as drooping cables between buildings.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who create connected, span-style blocks for Forge or NeoForge, and players who install an add-on that requires the library.

Questions

Does Strut Your Stuff need to be installed by players?

Players need it only when they use a mod that requires it, such as Create: Bits 'n' Bobs or Create: More Girder. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which loader should a player pick for Strut Your Stuff?

Forge and NeoForge are the two loaders it is published for. The Forge file covers 1.20.1 and the NeoForge file covers 1.21.1.

Is Flywheel (Legacy) required to run Strut Your Stuff?

No. Flywheel (Legacy) is an optional dependency, and Struts can use it for rendering when it is installed.
