Stratum

by InfernalEclipse

Stratum attaches random modifiers called stratums to melee weapons crafted in the Forge mod's forging station, and players can reroll them.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2

What it does

Stratums are modifiers applied to weapons when they are crafted. Their quality is not fully random: the chance of a good or bad stratum depends largely on the level of the weapon. At level 20 the chances of getting a good or a bad stratum are equal, while level 40 gives the highest chance of a good one, and higher levels keep increasing those chances. Stratums rolled through the forging station take the level into account, and the attributes a weapon already has affect which stratums it can receive.

A weapon holds at most two stratums, unless the Ordinary stratum case adds a third. Adding a stratum to an existing weapon costs one netherite ingot, unless the weapon has no stratum case, and rerolling costs one diamond; rerolling a weapon with two stratums rerolls both of them. Weapons with more stratums can also be spawned with commands by adding the stratum tags to the item, for example a diamond sword with three stratums. Stratum is published for Forge only, for 1.19.2, and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The mod is released under All rights reserved, and the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Weapon modifiers

Crafted weapons receive stratums, modifiers that change how the weapon behaves in combat.

  2. Level-based odds

Weapon level shifts the balance between good and bad stratums, with the odds peaking at level 40.

  3. Forging station rerolls

The forging station adds stratums to a weapon or rerolls the ones it already has.

  4. Stratum limits

A weapon holds at most two stratums, with a third possible only through the Ordinary stratum case.

Use cases

Command-spawned weapons

Server owners and map makers can spawn weapons with several stratums by adding stratum tags to an item command.

Who it’s for: Players who want melee weapons with random combat modifiers, and server owners who want to control or pre-spawn them. Support for modded melee weapons depends on whether they are tagged properly.

Questions

Which loader does Stratum need?

Stratum is published for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.19.2, so Fabric and NeoForge builds are not available.

Does Stratum have to be installed on the server?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Does Stratum work with modded melee weapons?

It works with modded melee weapons that are tagged properly. Long weapons are also covered when they carry the right tags.

Will Stratum add armor stratums?

Support for armor is planned, but it is not part of the released 1.0.1 file.

What the author says

Stratum adds modifiers to all crafted weapons. These modifiers are called stratums. Stratums aren't completely random and whether you recieve a good stratum or a bad stratum will be largely affected by your level.
