Spicy Coal

Spicy Coal is a Forge world generation mod by Kroko. It requires CoalAPI, which must be installed alongside it on every side. Both the server and each player need the mod, because the environment is client and server. Files exist for 1.12.2, 1.14.4, 1.15.1 and 1.15.2, with 2.7 for 1.15.2 as the latest file, first published and last updated on 2023-11-27. The code is under the Apache License 2.0, and the project is not open source.

The coal variant works like standard coal but is more effective: one piece crafts 12 torches and smelts 24 items. It is used in the recipe for blaze rods. A spicy ingot version can be crafted into spicy apples, which restore 8 food points and can be eaten twice. Eating one gives 30 seconds of fire resistance. The spicy helmet adds fire resistance and a small amount of protection, and a full spicy armor set has its bonus reduced. A spicy soup restores 14 food points, and the spicy sword deals 10 damage and applies a lasting burning effect that can be put out with water.

The mod also includes a spicy coal block as a building block and a smelting option. A diamond pickaxe is needed to dig spicy coal, which spawns in the Nether. The author notes that few advancements are tied to the content. The author ported the mod to 1.14.4 and kept the content and behavior consistent with the other ports.
