Speedometer

by zaze06

Speedometer shows the player's current movement speed on screen while riding, flying, walking or running.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.17.1 – 26.3

What it does

A speed readout appears in the game's HUD, so a player can see how fast they are moving at any moment. It reports the speed of whatever the player is riding or flying, as well as walking and running speed, which is useful for anyone curious about how quickly they travel.

Architectury API is required, and it allows the same code to work across NeoForge and Fabric. Cloth Config API is optional; when it is installed, the settings can be changed from an in-game configuration menu instead of by editing the configuration file by hand. Editing the file directly is the more complex route and suits players comfortable with JSON.

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 28 release versions, 1.17.1 – 26.3. The mod runs on the client only, so the server does not need it. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Live speed readout

A simple on-screen display shows the current movement speed while the player moves.

  2. Vehicle and flight speed

The readout covers riding and flying as well as walking and running, so it reports speed in every mode of travel.

  3. In-game configuration

With Cloth Config API installed, the display settings can be changed from a configuration menu in the game.

  4. Manual configuration file

Without Cloth Config API the settings are edited in a configuration file, a route better suited to players comfortable with JSON.

Tracking travel speed

A player riding a horse, boat or elytra can read off the exact speed to judge how quickly a route is covered.

Who it’s for: Players who want to know their movement speed while travelling, in survival or creative worlds. Installation on the client is enough; a server does not need the mod.
