Spawn Spires

by ATTOCORRECT

Spawn Spires is a NeoForge world generation mod for 1.21.1 that places Spire regions in the overworld and changes how nighttime monster spawning works inside them.

What it does

The mod addresses the way nighttime monster spawning is handled in vanilla Minecraft. Sleeping skips the night only when every player is in bed, which can leave a world with almost no night at all on busy servers. Spawn-proofing is a partial fix, since it needs lights or covered surfaces, and phantoms still punish players who stay awake. Spawn Spires aims at these problems by letting a player choose when night mobs appear.

A Spire is a structure that generates in the overworld. Its region is set by the chunks around the Spire, and a map in the game shows the regions as a graphic. Inside a region the player must survive through the night until the Spire is conquered. Insomnia is disabled, and phantoms spawn around active Spires and burn during the day instead. Once a Spire is conquered, a player can turn mob spawning back on in its region by turning the Spire Heart back on.

Spawn Spires works with overworld biome mods. Its Spire generation depends on biome tags, so newly added modded biomes must be listed in the mod's configuration before the mod can place a Spire there. The mod tries to place a Spire in each biome from its list. Spires that fail to generate are given a Spire Heart that can be placed by commands in creative mode. The mod is only meant for new worlds, and a chunk that was generated before the mod was installed keeps its normal monster spawning.

Key features

  1. Spire regions

Each Spire defines a region where nighttime mob spawning follows the Spire's rules rather than vanilla sleep behavior.

  2. Region map

The in-game map shows the regions, so a player can see where each Spire's area lies.

  3. Spire Heart control

Mob spawning in a conquered region can be turned back on by activating the Spire Heart.

  4. Phantom changes

Insomnia is disabled, and phantoms appear around active Spires and burn during the daytime.

Questions

Does Spawn Spires need to be installed on both sides?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

Can Spawn Spires be added to an existing world?

The mod is meant for new worlds. Chunks that were generated before installing it keep normal monster spawning and cannot hold a Spire region.

How do modded biomes get Spires?

Spawn Spires uses biome tags. New modded overworld biomes must be listed in its configuration so the mod knows to generate Spires there.

What the author says

Nighttime in Minecraft is flawed. Sleeping through the night is a tedious dead man's switch that must be flipped at the end of each day, or the player is at risk of being attacked and having their builds blown up by creepers. Spawn-proofing is a partial solution, but options are very limited and require lighting or…
