SourceBlock

by dreamCat

SourceBlock is a Forge and NeoForge utility mod with blocks that produce unlimited water, lava or milk, and blocks that destroy fluids, energy and chemicals.

ForgeNeoForgeMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Placed source blocks supply an endless amount of water, lava or milk, so a player can run a pipe or a machine from them without a finite tank. A separate empty block and a void block take fluids in, with an internal capacity of Integer.MAX_VALUE, which is 2,147,483,647 mB. Input is discarded rather than stored, which makes these blocks useful as a disposal point for waste from a factory.

The void blocks also accept energy in FE and RF units, and gas, slurry, infusion and pigment chemicals from Mekanism. Each type is removed from the network when it arrives, so load on a line that carries surplus can be reduced. The mod is open source under the MIT License, with a public source repository and an issue tracker.

Files target Forge and NeoForge, with builds for 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6 and 1.21.1. The latest Forge file is 1.2.1-forge+mc1.20.1 for 1.20.6, and the latest NeoForge file is 1.2.0-neoforge+mc1.21.1 for 1.21.1. Both loaders are covered by the same set of builds.

Key features

  1. Infinite source blocks

Source blocks for water, lava and milk output an unlimited supply of their fluid into adjacent pipes or containers.

  2. Void and empty blocks

Fluid input to these blocks is destroyed, so surplus liquid leaves the system without a tank.

  3. Energy and chemical disposal

The void blocks also remove FE and RF energy and Mekanism gases, slurries, infusions and pigments.

  4. Waste disposal balancing

Discarding excess input keeps a production line from backing up when an output is not consumed.

How it compares

Full comparison

Sourceflow Infinite is open source under the MIT License and is also published for Forge and NeoForge, so its loaders match this mod. Mekanism: TrashCube is open source under the MIT License and is a trash disposal block set for Mekanism rather than an infinite source. CaoPlus is Forge-only for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 under All rights reserved and is server required with client optional, so its environment and license differ from this mod.

Questions

Does Mekanism need to be installed for SourceBlock to work?

Mekanism is not listed as a required dependency. The chemical disposal features apply to Mekanism gases, slurries, infusions and pigments when that mod is present.

Does SourceBlock have to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod to run it.

Which loader should be used for SourceBlock?

Forge and NeoForge are both supported. Builds are published for each loader on the same set of game versions.
