SMP Utils

by _luckyyt

SMP Utils is a Fabric client mod that shows a simple combat HUD for survival multiplayer and PvP, with totem, hotbar and durability readouts.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.21.11

What it does

The HUD reads only information the client already receives from the server: how many totems are left, how many have been popped, a hotbar stock of totems, golden apples, end crystals and pearls, and the durability of armour and weapons. A totem pop counter tracks the player's own pops in the current fight and also counts opponents' pops, since the totem effect is broadcast to nearby players. A low health cue flashes and plays a sound when the player is down to a low pop-totem state. The mod also shows how far away the target being hit is, so the player can keep their eyes on the fight instead of checking the hotbar every two seconds.

SMP Utils is built around the SMP kit: netherite armour, totems and golden apples, and it works for normal survival PvP too. It does not change inputs, reach or hitboxes, and it does not add automation such as auto totem, auto crystal or auto pearl, nor any ESP, x-ray or aimbot-style features. The mod runs on Fabric 1.21.11 and is client-side only, so servers need nothing installed. It requires Cloth Config API and Mod Menu, and Mod Menu supplies an optional settings screen. The code is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Many servers, tournaments and PvP rule sets ban even basic HUD mods, so checking the rules before installing is advised.

Key features

  1. Totem pop counter

Counts the player's own totem pops in the current fight and the opponent's pops, which the game broadcasts to nearby players.

  2. Hotbar stock readout

Shows how many totems, golden apples, end crystals and pearls the player carries, plus warnings for armour and weapons about to break.

  3. Low health totem cue

Flashes the screen and plays a sound when health is low while the totem count is low, so the player notices in time.

  4. Target distance display

Shows how far away the entity being hit is, without changing the reach or hitboxes of the player.

Questions

Does SMP Utils need Cloth Config API and Mod Menu?

Yes. Both are required dependencies, and Mod Menu also opens the optional settings screen. Both must be installed next to SMP Utils.

Does a server need SMP Utils installed?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Is SMP Utils allowed on every server?

Not necessarily. Many servers, tournaments and PvP rule sets ban even basic HUD mods, so the server rules should be checked before installing it.

What the author says

A simple combat HUD for SMP PvP. It shows you stuff you already have access to, like how many totems you've got left, who just popped one, and how far away the thing you're hitting is.
