Smart Sorter

by slimshaddii

Smart Sorter is a Fabric storage mod that routes items through a network of chests, furnaces and machines using modular, data-driven sorting rules.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

Smart Sorter builds an automated storage network around a central Storage Controller. Components placed on the network handle different jobs: an Intake Block pulls items from chests, farms and hoppers, and an Output Probe pushes items into specific chests. A Linking Tool connects the parts together, so a network can be assembled without manual wiring between each piece.

The Process Probe controls furnaces and other machines through Redstone logic. Placing it on a furnace, linking it to the Controller and sending a Redstone signal from dust or a lever activates the probe. Once active, it automatically pulls fuel and raw materials into the machine, then returns finished products to prioritized chests. The mod handles smelting, XP collection and routing together, and the author states the network runs with zero TPS lag.

The mod is listed under Storage, with secondary categories for Technology, Utility, Equipment, Game mechanics, Management, Optimization and Transportation. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Fabric only, for game versions 1.21.1 – 1.21.11, and the latest Fabric file is the fix build for 1.21.8, released 2026-01-29. The code is open source under the MIT License, and snapshot builds are not part of the release list.

The Storage Controller manages the network and provides a search GUI and an XP bank for the connected storage.

  2. Item intake and output

The Intake Block pulls items from chests, farms and hoppers, while the Output Probe pushes them into chosen chests.

  3. Machine control with Redstone

The Process Probe feeds fuel and materials to furnaces and machines, and returns finished products to storage.

The author describes the network as handling configurations of 500+ chests, from a small survival base to an industrial complex.
