SAS - The Slabs And Stairs Mod

SAS adds slabs, stairs and quarter blocks for most vanilla blocks, and lets players combine their halves into new shapes.
What it does
Each vanilla block receives matching slab, stair and quarter variants. Pieces can be placed in any orientation, including vertically, so a build is not limited to the flat forms the base game provides. Two quarters of the same type craft a slab, three form a stair, and a stair built from quarters crafts back into the original block, so materials are not lost in the process.
Combinations are not limited to one material. A stone slab can share a block space with a birch planks slab, and a spruce planks stair can sit with a gold block quarter. Even two quarters of different types can form a slab, and three can form a stair-shaped piece. The mod is published for Forge only, across 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.19.3, and runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. The source code is under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, so the project is open source.

Mixed-material blocks
Pieces cut from different base materials can be stacked into one block space, mixing a stone half with a wooden half.
Placement preview
A configurable key held in a special placement mode shows a preview of the placed piece, and a second key cycles through its orientations.
Crafting back to the original
Broken-down pieces recraft into the original block, with recipes balanced so that a stair from quarters returns the full material.
