Simply Caterpillar

by Daniel-Mendes

Simply Caterpillar adds a drill that digs a 3x3 tunnel and builds mineshafts behind it, configured through a drill part system.

FabricForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

The drill is assembled from a base and interchangeable parts. The main part holds an 18-slot storage inventory for the drill head, and a fuel slot powers the machine. Power can be toggled from the GUI, and turning the caterpillar off pauses fuel consumption. A ride part lets a player sit on the drill while it moves.

Mining collects fallen items and moves them into the caterpillar's inventory, so blocks the drill breaks do not have to be picked up by hand. Items can also be transferred into a minecart with a chest, which is emptied when full. Players can choose which blocks are destroyed and which are kept, so water, lava, sand and gravel can be preserved to save inventory space.

Simply Caterpillar builds inside a mineshaft and places decorations similar to vanilla mineshafts by default. Its decorations can be edited, including which blocks replace gravel, sand, lava, water and air around the shaft, and which blocks reinforce the walls. Patterns can be transferred between decoration blocks, previewed, and given a name. Caterpillar is licensed under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker. Builds cover 1.18.2 – 1.20.1 for Fabric and Forge, with the latest files, version 8.0.2, dated 2024-01-04. Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional.
