Simple Life Crystals

by Tazgirl

Simple Life Crystals adds Terraria-style life crystals that generate in caves, and each one can be consumed to raise the maximum health of the player who uses it.

What it does

Caves between y -64 and y 32 are where life crystals show up, and they turn up only occasionally. A floating lava block marks where a crystal sits, at a random height below it. The default config lets a player consume one crystal for up to 10 maximum heart gain, and the amounts can be changed. Other settings disable generation or make it more common or rarer, and the generation is slightly compressed by default. A slight bias toward ocean blocks makes crystals more likely to appear in visible oceans, and they show up in other biomes more often.

A Mini Heart Lantern block comes in configurable sizes, and a few underground structures are configurable as well. The crystal item is a cute block that suits many builds. A bonus command replaces the entity's head armor with the life crystal item, so the crystal looks like cat ears on whoever wears it. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files exist for Forge and NeoForge, with builds for 1.20.1, 1.20.4 and 1.20.6, and the code is under All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Configurable life crystals

Life crystal generation, rarity and the health gained per crystal can all be adjusted in the config.

  2. Cave placement

Each life crystal sits in a cave between y -64 and y 32, with a floating lava block hanging over it.

  3. Mini Heart Lantern

A decorative lantern block with configurable sizes, suited to building projects.

  4. Cat ears command

A command swaps the entity's head armor for the life crystal item, giving the cat-ears look.

Use cases

Survival progression

Crystals found in caves give players a reason to explore underground and raise their health over time.

Custom health pacing

Server owners can change how many crystals spawn and how much health each one adds.

Who it’s for: Players who want an extra health source in caves, and server owners who want to tune how common crystals are.

How it compares

What the author says

Adds rare life crystals that appear in caves between y = -64 and y = 32. The default config allows the player to consume 10 max and gain a heart per crystal but both of those numbers can be changed.
