Armour Rebalance
by Tazgirl
Armour Rebalance replaces how Minecraft calculates armour protection, with a configurable curve that changes how defence scales.
What it does
The mod reworks the protection formula from the ground up. Its config controls the curve, and a graph in the config screen shows how each setting changes the defence curve, so server owners can compare values before choosing them. Under the default settings, the defence curve sits below vanilla, so high protection percentages drop and high protection is less overpowered than in vanilla.
The mod runs on the server alone, so players join without installing it. It is published for NeoForge only, in one release for 1.21.1, version 1.1.0, released on 2026-01-21. AttributeFix is an optional dependency that removes the armour attribute cap of 30. Copperboost requires this mod.
Key features
Configurable protection curve
The defence formula can be changed through the config, including settings that allow infinite defensive scaling.
Visual curve graph
A graph shows the resulting defence curve for the current values, making it simpler to test settings before applying them.
Adjustable armour amplifier
An amplifier setting scales how strongly armour contributes to protection, independent of the curve shape.
Health scaling option
The author suggests adding health scaling alongside it to smooth the defensive curve further.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Requirements
Dependencies declared by the latest file for each loader.
Optional 1
Required by 1 mod
Use cases
Large modpacks
The author built the mod mainly for internal use on large projects, and modpack makers are free to use it to raise difficulty or tune armour balance.
Threshold balancing
Server owners who want to keep the vanilla armour curve can leave the mod's settings at their defaults and avoid changing progression.
Who it’s for: The mod suits server owners and modpack authors who want to rebalance armour and protection on a NeoForge server for Minecraft 1.21.1.

What the author says
A fully configurable ground up rework of how Minecraft calculates armour and protection (check the graph linked below for a visual of how different the defense curve is). With the default config, armour is nerfed slightly and protection is a lot less op (protection is now a percentage amplifier of your armour).
