Scarecrows
by bl4ckscor3
Scarecrows adds carved-pumpkin scarecrow structures that keep hostile mobs and animals away from a lawn, built the way iron golems are.
What it does
A scarecrow is built by placing blocks in a column and finishing with a carved pumpkin or Jack o'Lantern, in the same way iron and snow golems are assembled. Arms are attached by right-clicking a block with a stick, and they can only go on the sides of the block they are placed against. A Jack o'Lantern at the top makes the scarecrow emit light. Breaking a scarecrow removes it and returns the blocks and items it was made of, though that return applies to Minecraft 1.13 and later.
Mobs that come near a scarecrow's area run away from it, and the scarecrow cries for help with a loud noise. Creepers ignore the effect because they are very quiet. Sometimes a scarecrow lures nearby mobs that are too fixated on a player, and the player notices the scarecrow before it moves them along. The mod came out of the MMD SpookyJam 2018 event.
Key features
Mob deterrence
Hostile mobs and animals that come near a scarecrow's area run away from it.
Crafted from pumpkins
Only carved pumpkins and Jack o'Lanterns work as the head, placed last to finish the build.
Light source
A Jack o'Lantern placed last makes the scarecrow emit light.
Several block variants
Variants use clay, chiseled stone bricks, netherrack, quartz pillars or end stone for the body, with different trim and end rods on some.
Arms and removal
Arms attach to the sides of a block using a stick, and breaking the scarecrow returns its materials.

Armor Stand Arms is open source under the MIT License, server-required with client optional, and covers 1.16 – 26.3, a wider range than Scarecrows. Scarecrows itself is client and server, so players and the server both need it.

What the author says
This mod was made during the MMD SpookyJam 2018! When a mob is scared by a scarecrow, it will run away from the scarecrow, crying for help by making tons of noise (except for creepers, because they're super quiet). Sometimes, if you lure them into the scarecrow's area, mobs will be too fixated on a player to notice…
