RPG Locator Bar

by yeahimliam

RPG Locator Bar moves the locator bar higher on screen, separate from the experience bar, to resemble the HUD layout of RPG games.

What it does

The mod lets players raise the locator bar and place the experience bar on its own line lower down, so the two no longer share space. Vertical position is adjustable, and the experience bar can be hidden while the locator bar is active. Behavior is controlled through in-game options, and the vanilla mechanics of the bar stay in place; only the layout changes.

Players who want an RPG-style HUD without replacing vanilla systems can use it in single-player and multiplayer clients alike. Settings can be reset to their default values in one step, which helps when a layout has been changed several times. Installation needs Fabric or NeoForge for 26.3 only; the latest Fabric and NeoForge builds are both 1.1.0, dated 2026-10-11. The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license and is not open source, though its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Separate experience bar

The experience bar sits on its own line, apart from the locator bar, instead of sharing the same space.

  2. Adjustable bar height

The vertical position of the locator bar can be set, so it can be raised toward the top of the screen.

  3. Experience bar visibility

Hiding the experience bar is possible while the locator bar stays active.

  4. Locator bar visibility

Options decide whether the locator bar is always shown, only in situations that need it, or stays visible while experience is gained.

  5. Reset to defaults

All settings can be restored to their default values instantly from the options.

Team Only Locator Bar is a server-side only Fabric mod, released under the MIT License, for 1.21.11 – 26.1, so players join without installing it. Locator Border is client-side only, released under the MIT License, and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.6 – 26.1.2, which is also a client-only option. Locator Bar Removed takes the opposite approach: it is server required with client optional, released under the MIT License, and covers 1.21.6 – 26.3 on four loaders.

What the author says

This mod separates the Locator Bar from the XP Bar, moving it higher on the screen similar to popular RPG-style HUDs. The XP bar and locator bar no longer fight for the same space, and their behavior can be fully customized through in-game settings. Adjusts how high the locator bar appears on the screen.
