What it does

RP Dices is a datapack for tabletop-style role play on Minecraft servers. Its public trigger command rolls a die and reports a random result, and a roll can also return the sum of several dice. The default roll uses a single d20-style die, with 1d, 2d and 3d choices available and only one die enabled until the options change it.

The available dice are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 100 sided. A player can choose the color a roll is displayed in within chat. The pack is meant for anyone who wants a dice mechanic in a role play world, and it has no requirement beyond a random number source, which the datapack already uses.

The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.0 license, so it is not open source. It is available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a data pack. Builds cover 1.15 – 1.21.11, with 1.2.0+mod for 1.21.11 as the latest file, published on 2026-01-30.

Key features

  1. Dice roll with random result

A trigger command rolls a die and displays a random number in chat, for role play sessions on a server.

  2. Seven die types

    Dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 100 sides are available for rolls.

  3. Sum of several rolls

A roll can return the total of multiple dice, so a group can roll a whole pool at once.

  4. Chat color choice

The color used to display a roll in chat can be picked, so results stand out from other messages.

Use cases

Tabletop-style role play

A server running a role play world can let players resolve checks and attacks with dice rolls in chat.

Random outcomes in a pack

Other datapacks that need a random number can share the same dice mechanic for consistent results.

Who it’s for: Server owners running role play worlds and players who want dice rolls in chat. A server that runs the pack is what provides the rolls, and players can add it on their side without it being required.

Questions

Does RP Dices need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server must run it, while players may add it on their side, since either way the rolls are provided by the server.

Which loaders and versions does RP Dices support?

It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, as well as a data pack, for 1.15 – 1.21.11.

Can the dice be customized?

Yes. The default is a single die, and the options let a player enable 1d, 2d or 3d rolls and pick the chat color.
