RoadWeaver
by shiroha
With RoadWeaver installed, roads are generated automatically between villages and other custom structures as the world loads.
What it does
Generated paths connect structures such as villages, following a pathfinding step that avoids steep slopes and unstable ground. Routes are adjusted for terrain height, biomes and ground stability, and a Bezier smoothing pass removes sharp turns from the polyline path.
Artificial roads use materials such as stone bricks, slabs, dirt and mud bricks, and natural roads adapt their material to the biome they cross. A preset editor lets server owners define a custom road material set. Tunnels cut through mountains, bridges cross water, and slabs fill elevation changes to keep the road passable.
RoadWeaver is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Files target 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.11, with 2.3.1-1.21.1-hotfix as the latest Fabric and NeoForge file and 2.3.0-1.20.1 as the latest Forge file. Both client and server need the mod, and it has no required dependencies.
Key features
Pathfinding routes
Several pathfinding algorithms choose routes that avoid steep and dangerous areas.
Bezier smoothing
Polyline paths are smoothed with Bezier curves, so roads turn gradually.
Artificial and natural roads
Artificial roads use fixed materials, while natural roads take materials from the biome.
Terrain preparation
Terrain is cut or filled and trees are removed so the road stays passable.
Tunnels and bridges
Tunnels pass through mountains and bridges cross water along the route.
Slab fill at elevation
Slabs fill the gaps where the road changes height.

Use cases
Connecting villages
Roads link the villages generated in a world, so travel between settlements follows a marked path.
Custom structure networks
Roads can connect custom structures as well as villages, which suits map makers building their own towns.
Who it’s for: Players who explore generated worlds on Fabric, Forge or NeoForge, and server owners who want roads between structures.
How it compares
RoadWeaver is open source under the MIT License and runs with client and server. Countered's Settlement Roads is server-side only and uses the same MIT License, with files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.10 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. RoadArchitect is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and supports Quilt in addition to the three loaders, for 1.20.1 – 1.21.10.
