RJ's Offline Server Skins
by RWJ
RJ's Offline Server Skins lets an offline server hand each joining player a skin fetched from a custom URL, without any Mojang authentication.
What it does
On an offline-mode server, the mod assigns each player a skin URL based on the player's in-game name. Clients load that URL in place of the normal skin lookup, so skins can be managed entirely offline, with no internet access needed beyond a web server on the LAN or the server host. The server must be configured with the URL pattern in its config file, and name% is required in that pattern while rev% is optional.
The client part is what makes this work: it bypasses the usual skin signing checks and accepts unsigned skins loaded over plain HTTP. Clients cache skins by base filename and append a random revision string, so changed skins are picked up instead of stale cached copies. The mod runs on the server and on every player's client, so both sides need it. The mod is for Fabric and targets 1.21.11 only, with a single build, 0.0.3, published on 2026-03-03.
Key features
Custom skin URLs
The server builds each player's skin URL from a configurable pattern that includes the player's name.
Unsigned skin loading
The client accepts unsigned skins served over HTTP, skipping the normal signing checks.
Cache-busting revisions
A random revision string is appended to skin URLs so clients refetch skins after they change.
Offline management
Skins can be managed without internet access, using a web server on the local network.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Offline or LAN servers
Groups running an offline-mode server on a LAN can give every player a fixed skin from their own web server.
School or club servers
A shared server can let each member pick a skin that is served from a local URL.
Who it’s for: Server owners running offline-mode servers who host their own skin files, and players on those servers who want to load them.
How it compares
SkinBlocker is a client-side only Fabric mod under the MIT License, built for 1.21.4, so it does not need to be installed on the server. LazyShuffle is also client-side only and open source under the MIT License, covering 1.21 – 1.21.8. Offline Tab Head is client-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and built for 1.21.1. None of them serve skins from a custom URL on a server; this mod needs both sides installed.

What the author says
This server+clientside mod exists so I can allow players at an after-school club to pick a skin, and make it work with a server in offline mode and no internet access on either the server or clients. The server injects the correct skin URL into the player profile based on their name. Clients cache the skin keyed on…
