Resource Engineering
by kg6jay
Resource Engineering brings gem-based tools, armor and several machines to Forge, with ore bits that can turn up in unexpected places.
What it does
Gems mined from the ground can be refined in machines, and sifting dirt, sand, gravel or soul sand with the sifter yields bits of gold, iron and diamond, along with other drops. A pressure vessel smelts those flakes and nuggets back into metal, and a gem tumbler turns unrefined gems into shiny refined ones. Gem tools and armor are crafted from the refined gems, and the complete set comes pre-enchanted. The mod adds several components, including array gems, tools, armor and machines.
The tool line runs from a lowest tier that is about as effective as wood, through gems with twice the durability of stone tools, up to a ruby hammer with 4096 durability. Hammers break out 3x3x3, 5x5x5 and 7x7x7 cubes, depending on the gem. Vanilla armor and tools are supported, but only Resource Engineering armor and tools are left undamaged by the machines.
The mod is published for Forge only, for 6 release versions 1.4.7 – 1.12.2, and the latest file is 1.0.0 for 1.12.2, an alpha build released 2022-05-20. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and the code is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Gem tools and armor
Gem-based tools and armor crafted from refined gems form a full set, and the complete set comes pre-enchanted.

The sifter processes dirt, gravel, sand and soul sand, and dense or loaded versions yield metal bits.
Pressure vessel
A blaze-fuelled machine smelts metal flakes and nuggets, and diamond chips combine into whole diamonds.
Gem tumbler
Sand or gravel placed in the bottom slot acts as grit that turns dull unrefined gems into shiny refined ones.

Gem hammers break out 3x3x3, 5x5x5 and 7x7x7 cubes, with durability rising from the lowest tier to the ruby.
