Remote Access

by Icywhenhot

Remote Access lets a player switch between nearby workstations without closing the crafting screen the player already has open.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1 – 26.2

What it does

Compatible workstations within a configurable detection radius are found automatically, and side icons appear beside the inventory. Pressing a configured key moves to the prior or following workstation in range, so a player can reach an anvil, enchanting table, cartography table, loom, smithing table or stonecutter without leaving the current interface. The detection radius can be changed in the settings, and the supported vanilla functional blocks are the ones the mod reads.

The design keeps to the look of vanilla inventory screens rather than adding a separate modded layout. It suits compact workshop builds, multiplayer bases and technical crafting rooms where many utility blocks sit close together. The mod is client-side only, so only the client needs it and servers run without it. Cloth Config API is an optional dependency that adds an options screen for the detection radius and other settings. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, in four game versions 1.21.1 – 26.2, and the latest Fabric file is 1.0.1 for 26.2. The mod is open source under the MIT License, and its source code is public.

Key features

  1. Switch without closing screens

Moving to another workstation keeps the current interface open, so a crafting session is not interrupted.

  2. Nearby workstation detection

Compatible workstations in range are detected and offered through side icons next to the inventory.

  3. Configurable detection radius

The distance used to find nearby functional blocks can be adjusted to suit a base layout.

  4. Key-based navigation

Configured keys step to the prior or following workstation, one press at a time.

How it compares

Full comparison

Nearby Crafting is open source under the MIT License, runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.2, and has the client and server environment. Dibs! is a server-required Fabric mod, with client-optional use, released under CC0 1.0 Universal for 1.21 – 26.2. Remote Access differs from both in being client-side only, so servers need no install.
