Redstone Signal Visualizer

by MPGod42

Redstone Signal Visualizer shows redstone signal strength across the world, so players can read a circuit's state at a glance while building.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient required, server optionalAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 26.3

What it does

The mod renders redstone signal strength in real time, with colors and opacity for each signal type, so a circuit's state is visible without opening a debug screen. Signal types can be toggled on and off, so emitters, receivers and comparators can be shown separately, and the default, obstructed and comparator colors can be set.

The server computes the true state of redstone in the world, comparator outputs included, and the client draws the overlays and handles per-player settings. Players must install the mod, while a server may add it for extra features. Without a server component, the client performs a local inspection that lacks comparator-level accuracy.

Update delay, radius and refresh interval can be tuned per player, which trades responsiveness against CPU, network and client cost. The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for 1.16.5 – 26.3, and is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Live signal strength view

Redstone signal strength is shown in real time as it propagates through a circuit, with numeric values visible.

  2. Signal type toggles

showEmits, showReceives and showComparators switch each signal type on or off for the rendered overlay.

  3. Adjustable colors and opacity

Default, obstructed, emitter and comparator signals each have their own color and opacity settings.

  4. Radius and refresh limits

A radius caps how far signals are visualized, and a refresh interval in milliseconds sets how often the view updates.

Variable Copper Bulb Signal is server-side only, released under the MIT License, and published for 1.21 – 26.1.2 on all four loaders, so players can join without installing anything. Sticky Redstone runs on both client and server and is published for 26.1 – 26.3 under All rights reserved, which makes it closer in version range and license terms to this mod. Sound Visualizer is client-side only, released under the MIT License, and covers 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, but it shows sound rather than redstone.

Questions

Does the server need Redstone Signal Visualizer installed?

Not strictly. Each player installs it; a server may add it but does not have to.

Why is comparator output less accurate without the server component?

Without the server, the client performs a local inspection, which lacks comparator-level accuracy. The server computes the true redstone state.

Can a player reduce the performance cost of the overlay?

Yes. Each player can lower the radius, raise the refresh interval in milliseconds, or increase the update delay to reduce CPU and network usage.

What the author says

See every redstone signal at a glance — debug, optimize, and design with confidence. This mod splits responsibilities between server and client: the server performs authoritative sampling of redstone state (including comparator outputs and other values the client is not allowed to access), ensuring visualizations…
